Our giving: Organizations

Janssen is fully committed to providing high quality products and services to healthcare professionals, patients and their families. Simply put, we always place the needs and well-being of the people we serve first. It is important for us to understand all aspects of patients’ needs. That’s why we engage and collaborate with patient organisations, who play an important role in informing, supporting, and assisting patients. As a company, we learn from this interaction, and that helps us in the development of new treatments and in providing useful information.

It is our goal to ensure that these relationships and partnerships proceed within a principled framework of mutual respect and learning, integrity, independence, and transparency.

This framework has been described in the “Code Of Practice On Relationships Between The Pharmaceutical Industry And Patient Organisations", as developed by the European Federation Of Pharmaceutical Industry Associations (EFPIA) in collaboration with pan-European patient organisations.

• The independence of patient organizations, in terms of their political judgment, policies and activities, will be assured.
• All partnerships between patient organisations and the pharmaceutical industry will be based on mutual respect, with the views and decisions of each partner having equal value.
• The pharmaceutical industry will not request, nor will patient organisations undertake, the promotion of a particular medicine.
• The objectives and scope of any partnership will be transparent. Financial and non- financial support provided by the pharmaceutical industry will always be clearly acknowledged.
• The pharmaceutical industry welcomes broad funding of patient organizations from multiple sources.

In order to facilitate collaboration, Janssen has developed the following:

• A review process by a multi-disciplinary committee to evaluate requests for funding or collaboration.
• Disclosure of the funding provided to patient organisations. The purpose of our disclosure of contributions is to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to transparency.

What is the nature of our collaboration with patient organisations?

Janssen may interact with patient groups in the following ways:

• Support of educational programmes and conferences;
• Sponsorship of fund-raising events;
• Contributions to support programmes and services for the patient community and their care-givers;
• Contributions to support activities to help patients and care-givers advocate better treatment, services and support; and also collaborations to raise awareness about the diseases.

The following types of requests are generally not eligible for contributions:

• Scholarships to individuals;
• Direct contributions to individuals;
• Loans.

Contributions Process Statement

A multi-disciplinary committee reviews all requests. Requests should include the organization's mission statement, tax status, project/event description, description of how the funds will be used, project budget (if applicable) and annual operating budget.

Description: Supporting organization of Event which purpose is to raise the awareness to employers that physical shortcomings are not obstacle to work.

Description: To support Estonian Myeloma Society for Myeloma newsletter creation, printing and delivery to 800 family doctors. The purpose is to increase the family doctors´ awareness about myeloma and early diagnosis.

Description: Partial Support of organizing an Event which purpose is to raise the family doctors awareness about myeloma and early diagnosis by organizing trainings for family doctors in Rakvere and Pärnu.

Description: Supporting organization of Patient Day held in Tartu 12 November 2016. The purpose of the Patient Day is increase patients understanding of myeloma and healthy diet during treatment and remission. Anticipated number of participants is 60 patients, family members and health care specialists (doctors, nurses etc.).

Description: Supporting organization of informative and educational seminar "Summer School 2015" for HIV patients, for the purpose of providing information, additional trainings and the forum to experiences exchange.

Description: Supporting participation of one PO Delegate in the leading European hematology conference with the coverage of different hematology topics.

Description: Supporting organization of Patient Day event on the topics of Lymphoma and leukemia management in Estonia.

Description: Supporting organization of Myeloma Patients Day event for the awareness on the disease management and new treatment options for the patients, families and the society

Description: Supporting implementation of Prostate Cancer Disease awareness program in Estonia for education of prostate cancer prevention, latest treatment options and consequences

Description: Supporting preparation and publishing of an educational leaflet for patients with myleoma.

Description: Supporting organization of the educational seminar "Multiple Myeloma Patient Day".

Description: Supporting preparation of informational and educational brochures in schizophrenia for patients and their families in two languages - Russian and English
